Our Charolais Program
Today, Elite Charolais’ home base is a property situated just out of the township of Meandarra. Comprising of 420 acres, ‘Murwollock’ has the capability of running a selection of donor females, the yearling bulls and show cattle. Our entire cow herd is spread between two agistment properties located up to two hours away, so it is for this reason that we place a high emphasis on breeding commercially functional and industry relevant females to handle Australian conditions.
Currently we are undertaking extensive embryo transfer programs, with the aim of breeding a consistent line of females and sale bulls from the very best of the Elite cow herd, as well as sourcing some fresh genetics from outside herds. We feel that this will enable us to grow our numbers of genetically superior/proven females in the shortest amount of time possible.
The majority of the stud bulls are currently marketed privately, with most going to repeat buyers each year. Select bulls are also sold at multi-vendor sales such as Emerald Ag-Grow in July of each year and at the National Charolais Show and Sale.
Elite Charolais uses the showring as a marketing tool to display what we have to offer the industry and to promote the breed to possible newcomers and the commercial cattleman. Over the years, it has provided us both with many opportunities to meet and form close-knit relationships with fellow breeders, clients and others involved in Australian agriculture.
